Samayam on February 27

Debutant director Satheesh Poduval's upcoming Sreenivasan starrer Samayam will grace�theatres on Friday (February 27) alongside other major releases: Venal Maram by director Mohana Krishnan, Bharya�Oru Suhruth by Venu Nagavalli and Paribhavam by K.A. Devarajan. Swetha Menon and Sreedevika are the heroines.

Samayam is one of the few Malayalam films that revolve around the lives of potters as a community. The last film on the potter community was Mankolangal (2001) directed by Subrahmaniam Shanthakumar.

Samayam tells the story of potter Chathappan (Sreenivasan), who lives in a village with his wife Manikyam (Shwetha Menon). Chathappan thinks he is too talented to spend his entire lifetime making only�pots and mud vessels. Basically, Chathappan wants to become a famous sculptor and he always tries to make many sculptures.

As�time changes, Chathappan is forced to take up more responsibilities in his family. But he spends his time drinking, participating in cock-fights and loafing about, leaving the burden of looking after the family to his wife. The story is set against the backdrop of�changing times. Veteran actor Vijayaraghavan plays a key role�as Bhairavan, a man with supernatural powers.

Director Satheesh Poduval's son and child artist Ganapathy, who has made notable performances in Vinodayathra, Alibhai, Chithrashalabhangalude Veedu and Innaththe Chinthavishayam,�enacts the role of Appu, Chathappan's son. Also in the cast are Nedumudi Venu, Salim Kumar, Sivaji Guruvayur, D.K. Babu, Abu Salim, Vavachan Josey, Kripa, Geetha Vijayan, Ramadevi, Sreenath and others. Samayam is produced by S. Shajahan under the banner of Royal Arts.
