Zarina Wahab in Calendar

Zarina Wahab, a heart robbing Bollywood heroine of the seventies and eighties, appeared in many unforgettable roles in Malayalam films like Elizabeth in Madanolsavam (1978), Usha in Palangal (1981), Savitha in Saravarsham (1982). Zarina's combination with Kamal Haasan in Madanolsavam was superb and the melodious songs of the film are popular even today. Another popular movie of hers is Chamaram, in which sheappeared in the role of a lecturer. Now, she is all set to re-enterMalayalam through Prithviraj starrer Calendar directed by debutant Mahesh.

In this film, Zarina will play a character named Thangam George, a widowed professor who lives for her only daughter Kochu Rani (Navya Nair). Earlier, many senior artristes like Sumalatha, Mohini, Sita and Rohinideclined this role for different reasons. Coincidentally, Zarina's role as a professor will be shot at the same location of Mar Baselious college, Kottayam, where her lecturer's role in Chamaram was also shot nearly 25 years ago.

Planned as a hilarious comedy, Calendar will have Prithviraj in the lead as Sojashan Olikkara. Other cast members include Mukesh, Jagadeesh, Jagathy Sreekumar, Vijayaraghavan, Mallika Sukumaran and Sooraj Venjaranmoodu. Babu Janardhanan pens the script for Calendar, which has already started shooting at Kottayam last week. Calendar will be Prithviraj’s Vishu release.

Born in Visakhapatnam, Zarina debuted with the Hindi film Ishq Ishq Ishq (1974)with Dev Anand. She became popular in 1976 through Basu Chatterjee'sChit Chor opposite Amol Palekar.
