Palery Manikyam starts rolling

Scenarist-turned-director Ranjith's upcoming investigative thrillerPalery Manikyam, starring Malayalam superstar Mammootty in the role of a Delhi-based investigator, will begin its first schedule of shooting in Paris shortly, sources said.

Produced by A.V. Anoop and Subair under the banner of AVA Productions and Varnachithra Big Screen, Palery Manikyam is the fifth film in which Mammootty is working with Ranjith. Earlier, they have been together for Black, Kaiyoppu, Prajapathy and Nasrani. Ranjith's last was super hit romantic entertainer Thirakkatha (2008).

Palery Manikyam is based on a famous novel 'Palery Maanikyam - Oru Paathira Kolapathakathinte Katha' by T.P. Rajeevan, first published in Mathrubhumi as a weekly serial. As the title indicates, the story is based on the infamous Manikyam murder that took place 51 years back (1958) at Paleri near Kozhikode. It revolves around a village girl Manikkam, who is brutally raped and murdered on the 11th day of her marriage.

Ranjith recently held a film workshop in Kozhikode to choose theatre actors for Palery Manikyam. The aim of the workshop was to finetune the actors who are not familiar with the camera. The film workshop was inaugurated by actress Manju Warrier; leading Malayalam directors and actors took classes at the workshop over 10 days.
