Orkkuka Vallapozhum: One among the best

"Orkkuka Vallapozhum, the debut venture of director Sohanlal, is one of the best in my career. The film is worthy enough to represent Malayalam cinema in the international circuits," veteran Malayalam actor Thilakan said while addressing mediapersons at ameetingat the Thiruvananthapuram Press Club on Sunday.

"I have been in the industry since 1973, performed several roles and the role of Sethumadavan in Orkkuka Vallapozhum would rate among one of the very few roles that I have really enjoyed. Unlike mainstream potboilers, this film has minimum dialogues and maximum visuals. A majority of film-lovers in the State were waiting for such a film to hit the theatres. Although Orkkuka Vallapozhum is not a pure commercial film, the film-lovers will surely accept it for its artistic value," said 72-year-old Thilakan. Asked about his award expectations, Thilakan said winning awards was not a criterion for him while accepting roles.

Sohanlal, who was also present at the meet-the-press programme, saidOrkkuka Vallapozhum was inspired by the late lyricist P. Bhaskaran’s poemby the same name. "This film depicts three periods in the life of Sethumadhavan. More than halfthe film’s plot takes place in the mind of protagonist." The filmmaker said rating a film based on its success at the box office alone is an old concept. Now cinema is not just restricted to theatres. There are many other possibilities and options available for filmmakers and producers.

Orkkuka Vallapozhum revolves around 75-year-old Sethumadhavan, who makes feeble attempts to return to the innocence of his past. Produced by Vinu Y.S. under the banner of God's Own Movies, the film has Renjith Menon, Master Dhananjay and newcomer Shilpabala in prominent roles. M.J. Radhakrishnan has cranked the camera. Music is by M. Jayachandran. The film also marks the arrival of two young singers: Rajalekshmi and Anand.
