Multitasker Suhasini's golden jubilee!

One of Indian's most versatile actresses, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, born on August 15, 1961, turns 50 today. We at Galatta.com wish her many happy returns for her real-life golden jubilee and hope she continues to entertain us for the years to come!

Interestingly, Suhasini Mani Ratnam is the only Indian actress who started her career behind the camera. Suhasini, a trained costume designer, hair stylist and cinematographer, is the first female student to graduate from the Madras Film Institute. In 1988, she married Mani Ratnam and the couple have a son, Nandhan. She made her on screen debut in 1980 with the Tamil film Nenjathai Killathe. Incidentally, Suhasini is Kamal Haasan's niece (daughter of Charu Haasan, Kamal's elder brother).

Suhasini has acted in Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Telugu films. She won the National Film Award for best actress for her role in the Tamil film Sindhu Bhairavi (1985), directed by K. Balachander. In 1996, Suhasini stepped into direction with Indira.

Happy birthday Suhasini!
