Mammootty in Palery Manikyam

After the success of romantic entertainer Thirakkatha (2008), reportedly based on one of the biggest Kollywood romances of the late 70's (between Kamal Haasan and late actress Srividya), scenarist-turned-director Ranjith (also spelt Renjith) isback with Palery Manikyam, an investigative thriller. Mammootty is the hero, playing the role of a Delhi-based investigator who comes to Palery villagetoinvestigate a murder mystery.

This isthe fifth time Mammootty is working with Ranjith. Earlier, they have been together forBlack, Kaiyoppu, Prajapathy and Nasrani,of which Nasrani was not directed by Ranjith, but by veteran Joshy ofTwenty:20 fame.

Palery Manikyam is based on a famous novel 'Palery Maanikyam - Oru Paathira Kolapathakathinte Katha' by T.P. Rajeevan, first published in Mathrubhumi as a weekly serial. This period film revolves around the infamous Manikyam murder case, which was in the news around five decades ago. Ranjith has already started picking up the cast and members for this project, which is expected to bevery different.

Meanwhile, Ranjith is all set to debut in Tamil as a director with the remake of his super hit Malayalam film Nandanam (2002),the debut film ofPrithviraj and Navya Nair. Produced by veteran producer Shogun Mohan, the Tamil version of Nandanam will have Prithviraj reprising his original role; it is most likely that Priyamani will be his heroine. The Tamil screenplay is being written by writer-director Viji who wrote Mozhi.Shooting will start after Prithviraj and Priyamani complete ace Mani Ratnam’s Ravana.
