G. Venugopal's silver jubilee

Noted playback singer G. Venugopal was felicitated by many eminent dignitaries and celebrities on Sunday during a grand reception organized by�Mangalam saily at Thiruvananthapuram to celebrate his 25 melodious years in the Malayalam film industry.

Malayalam superstars Mohanlal and Suresh Gopi graced the occasion with their presence and fondly spoke about the singer's idiosyncratic style and voice. Renowned poets O.N.V. Kurup, Sugathakumari, Sureshkumar, director Hariharan, Ashok Kumar and many others were also present.

Venugopal, a postgraduate in Literature and Journalism from Kerala University, was the Sarva Kala Prathibha for five consecutive years from 1980 to 1985. He started his career with Odarathammava Aalariyam (1984) and has sung in more than 280 films and has over 250 albums to his credit.

His noted songs are 'Unarumee gaanam' (Moonnaam Pakkam), 'Thaaney poovitta moham' (Sasneham), 'Aadedee aadaadedee' (Ullam), 'Onnaam raagam paaadi' (Thoovaanathumbikal), 'Mainaagapponmudiyil', Pallitherundo' (Mazhavilkkaavadi), 'Peeli Kannezhuthi' (Sneha Saagaram) and 'Karuka vayal kurivee' (Dhruvam). He resides in Thiruvananthapuram with his wife Reshmi and two children, Arvind and Anupallavi.
