For the film making aspirants out there, the Legend 2k19 has brought a golden opportunity to flourish their talent through National Level Short Film contest which is going to be judged by the people from the film industry themselves.
The Legend- Short Film Festival Legend, the national level short film festival organized by the Department of Visual Communication, Sathyabama has created a benchmark amidst the young creative talents from all over India. This festival has been an open forum for the student fraternity to debate their ideas with renowned and experienced personalities from the media industry. The event has marked its presence and has survived with remarkable moments shared by the eminent talents. Legend usually happens in the month of September. This year the festival happens on the 5th and 6th of September 2019. The Legend 2019 is also embedded with interactive sessions and short film competitions.
The memorable journey of Legend began in 2007 with the huge trendsetters of Indian cinema. The list of dignitaries, who have been a part of this national film festival, can be categorized into various genres like directors, cinematographers, script writers, editors, photographers, film critics, producers, editors and documentary film makers. Legend is not only an interactive platform but also a competitive ground. To induce the competitive spirit among the youngsters, Legend organizes the national level short film festival every year with exciting cash prizes. This has made students to be more engaged and involved in participating for the event from all over India.
Legend paves way for the young minds to interact with the celebrities and many inspiring people. Our students have gained knowledge and insights from famous directors of Tamil Cinema like Balu Mahendra, A.R. Murugadoss, Samudrakani, A.L. Vijay, Gautam Vasudev Menon, Linguswamy, K. Bagyaraj, Vettrimaran, Vishnuvardhan, and also the trend setting directors like Atlee Kumar, Karthik Subaraj, Bala, and Manikandan.
LEGEND days are spent only for gaining knowledge and values from people belonging to distinct fields. To witness that, we have had guests from Film Criticism background, which includes Yogi Sethu, Directors Vasanth, Myskin, Parthiban, Arivazhagan and Film Critic Pritham Chakravarthy.
As mentioned earlier, film industry has various genres to excel at. Therefore, the department of Visual Communication has reckfully striving hard to cover the various fraternities. The series of dignitaries continues here with the Documentary Film Maker Anand Patwardhan, the Wildlife Photographers Alphonse Roy and Radhika Ramaswany, Vijay TV Creative Head Mr. Pradeep Milroy Peter and the series continues with the flock of Cinematographers. K. V. Anand, Dir. Sargunam, Dir. Venkat Prabhu, Dir. M. Rajesh and Mr. Nirav Shah.
This festival had also helped people witness special moments like the screening of Vikram Prabhu’s Sigaram Thodu movie right after its release date, just for the student community. The entire credit goes to the Former UTV Producer Dhanajayan and the Management of Sathyabama for providing all the resources required. Legend, the National Film Festival, not only concentrates on guest lectures and speeches. It also focuses on the practical application of the knowledge gained with the help of “Workshops” to enhance the hands on experience for students. Department of Visual Communication has always and will continue to scout the best for future achievers. Letting the students to be the active participants has been the secret of success with respect to LEGEND.
