Katari Veera Surasundarangi (KVSS), which faced a lot of difficulties before its release, is facing a lot of issues even after its release. A case has been filed in the Karnataka High Court by Nagarjun Naidu and others recently, to stop the film’s screening across the state. The petitioners claim that the film has hurt the feelings of Hindus and depicts Hindu gods in a derogatory manner.

Talking about the objectionable scenes, the petitioners said, “In one scene the hero asks Yama (God of the death in Hindu mythology) as to why he has not given any punishment to Lord Rama and Krishna, though they had done many misdeeds. In many scenes, the hero kicks and hits many Hindu gods, which are objectionable. So, we have approached the Karnataka High Court to stop the film’s screening across the state.”

Katari Veera Surasundarangi, which was released on May 10 in over 170 screens across Karnataka, stars Upendra and Divya Spandana in the lead roles, directed by Suresh Krishna. The movie revolves around a common man who happens to go to hell and heaven.

It may be recalled that the fight between God Father producer Manju and Katari Veera Surasundarangi producer Munirathna over the release date of films had created trouble before the film’s release. Manju claimed that he will release his movie first, as he started the film’s shoot before KVSS. But, the problem was sorted out when Manju announced that he will release his film only in June.

The movie’s release date was affected again when Niranjan Shetty, a scriptwriter, claimed that Upendra has used his story in KVSS that he narrated the actor a few years ago. But, the film was released amidst the issue.

After the release, the movie’s screening was hindered by Bajrang Dal committee members in some districts of Karnataka for some objectionable scenes in the movie. The movie resumed its screening in those districts only after the filmmakers deleted the objectionable scenes in the movie.
