Censor Board bans Thambivudayaan

Director Raja Mahesh's new Tamil film Thambivudayaan (also spelt Thambivudaiyan), which deals with the Kaveri river water dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, has been banned by the Censor Board after the director refused to delete some scenes, saying that they were tooimportant to be deleted.

Talking about these scenes whichthe Censor Board has objected to, Mahesh said: "The hero of Thambivudayaan abducts the wife and children of a powerful minister and says that they would be released only if the ‘other side’ releases water to the starving farmers."

The film is about the sufferings offarmers of Thanjavur region. "The problem has been there for decades but it still remains unresolved. As I too am from Thanjavur district, I wanted to attempt a solution to this long-pending issue through a movie," he said, adding that he has decided to gofor an appeal.
