Angry Amitabh awoke media: Ajay Vidyasagar

Chennai-based TV broadcaster Sun TV Network's newly appointed CEO Ajay Vidyasagar feels that though the Indian Emergency period (declared by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi) brought a most difficult time for journalists during 1975-1977, it turned out to be the main reason for the liberation of media in India.

He was addressing the first session on "The journey of media" at FICCI FRAMES' prestigious convention on the business of entertainment in Asia -- FICCI Media and Entertainment Business Conclave -- which commenced today (Wednesday) at Le Royal Meridian in Chennai.

Explaining the major media developments starting from Jawaharlal Nehru's speech on the night of Indian Independence till today, he also said that the angry young man of cinema Amitabh Bachchan also induced media awakening. "An angry young man wakes up an angry young nation," he described. Ajay spoke on different topics, including the growth of TV through six decades.

The conclave, inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi this morning in the presence of FICCI conclave chairman Kamal Haasan, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni, filmmaker Yash Chopra and actor Sarathkumar, will conclude on November 19.
