Vivek Oberoi recently shared a meme on his Twitter account, involving Aishwarya Rai. It was unpleasant and extremely offensive.  So the enraged Twitter community began criticizing and condemning him. While addressed by the media, regarding the controversy he said: "Somebody had sent me a meme and I had posted it with my reply."

Further, when he was questioned about his opinion on Women's Commission filing a case against him, the Vivegam actor replied: "Even I would like to meet the Women's Commission since I have been working on women empowerment over a decade."

Additionally he had said that  he does not mind apologizing, but won't do the same when he hasn't committed any wrong deed. He also added that this has been blown out of proportion, and that he had also laughed off at a meme that makes fun of him. Vivek Oberoi also stated that he had appreciated that person for their creativity and memes aren't supposed to be taken seriously.

The National Commission for Women had filed a case against him, sought justice and as a result the tweet was deleted. One of the celebrities to call it out was actress Sonam Kapoor. He responded to her tweet, by asking her to stop over-acting in her movies and stop overreacting on social media.

Furthermore, he also tweeted: " Sometimes what appears to be funny and harmless at first glance to one, may not be so to others. I have spent the last 10 years empowering more than 2000 underprivileged girls, I cant even think of being disrespectful to any woman ever. Even if one woman is offended by my reply to the meme, it calls for remedial action. Apologies tweet deleted". Check out the tweet, below.
