Pink Movie review
Bollywood’s Shenshah Amitabh Bachchan starrer much hyped project Pink has been indeed painting the town Pink. The socio drama has hit the theatres today. National award winning Bengali director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury debuts into Hindi film industry with this film. Shoojit Sircar has produced Pink which also has Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari and Andrea Tariang in key roles.
Pink starts with Meenal Arora (Taapsee Pannu), Falak Ali (Kirti Kulhari) and Andrea (Andrea Tariang) rushing home late night in a much tensed manner. Parallelly we are shown two friends rushing their friend Ranveer (Angad Bedi) to hospital after getting an eye injury. We are also introduced to Deepak Sehgal (Amitabh Bachchan) – a retired advocate and his daily routine of morning walks to park and taking care of his ailing wife at hospital.
Meenal, Falak and Andrea are responsible for Ranveer’s eye injury and the boys decide to give it back to the girls. They keep torturing the girls fin all possible ways. The girls lose it and file a complaint in Police station on what happened that night and how in self defence they hit Ranveer with a bottle. Ranveer who has political influence files a complaint back, accusing Meenal of attempt to murder. The helpless girls find no direction to prove their innocence and fight for their rights.
Deepak Sehgal comes into the picture and offers to fight the case on behalf of the girls. Then follows the series of courtroom sessions between Deepak and opponent Prashant Mehra (Piyush Mishra). Watch Pink on big screens to find out who wins the case and if justice is given to Meenal, Falak and Andrea or not!
Annirudha Roy creates a compelling drama with hard hitting dialogues and impacting visuals. Pink highlights the taboos and stereotypical thought processes tagged with women. Be it being out in the late hours, dressing up, socializing, alcohol consumption and other typical things which are considered a taboo, are conveyed in a very hard hitting manner. It provokes your thought process and makes every single person watching in the theatre to sit back and think.
Piyush Mishra makes you loathe him to the core. The kind of questions he will throw and the way he will provoke the accused will rage you up as an audience only. The story, screenplay, dialogues, performances and background score – everything deserves full points.
Amitabh Bachchan is like the brightest star to a place where constant and certain darkness prevails. A women oriented story would not have got the same backing and limelight if it was not Big B in the role of Deepak Sehgal. It would have been any other small budgeted film with a message driven theme on women empowerment.
Hats off to Shehnshah for accepting such roles and performing with such conviction.Nothing more to say - Pink is a go getter!
