During last year's lockdown, several notable films skipped the theatrical release and opted for a direct OTT release due to the pandemic. Popular streaming giant, Amazon Prime Video was one of the major players who bought several top star films. Jyotika's Ponmagal Vandhal, Suriya's Soorarai Pottru, Keerthy Suresh's Penguin, Nani's V, Amitabh Bachchan - Ayushmann Khurrana's Gulabo Sitabo, Vidya Balan's Shakuntala Devi were some of the notable films which had a direct OTT release on Prime Video. The streaming giant is now all set for the next round during this second wave of Covid 19 and the first film that the company has acquired is Sherni, starring Vidya Balan.

Yes! Vidya Balan's highly anticipated action thriller, Sherni will directly release on Prime Video in June 2021. The release date is yet to be announced. Talking about the film's OTT release, producer Vikram Malhotra of Abundantia Entertainment said in a statement, "After the successful and much-loved collaboration for Shakuntala Devi in 2020, I am delighted to partner once again with Amazon Prime Video as we take Abundantia Entertainment’s latest film to the world. Sherni is one of the most special and important stories that we’ve worked on and Amit’s evocative take on a highly relevant subject, laced with his trademark satire, will make for compelling watch. I’m also very excited for the fans of Vidya Balan to see her in the unique avatar of a forest officer. Can’t wait for the ‘First Day First Stream’ of Sherni!".

The first look poster of the movie was officially unveiled today (May 17) and it gives us a glimpse of Vidya Balan's character. She will be seen in the role of a Forest Officer in this film.
