India's National Television Broadcaster Doordarshan, refused to screen Onir's I am, as the film was U/A certified. The film which won many National awards, was rejected, even after the censor advised cuts were made. The channel's spokesperson claims that any film which obtains a U certificate can only be screened, as this decision had been taken a long time back.

Director Onir claims that, he was worried that TV programmes have no censorship, and only the films are being reviewed. He further added that though there is a rule to screen National Award winning movies on DD, the review committee decided to break the rule. The filmmaker expressed that inspite of bagging awards, the film has been humiliated by our country's nation television.
