Chennai: The LPG prices have been hiked by Rs. 144.5, in response to e rise in the global rates. This is the steepest one-time hike since 2014. The government is also doubling the subsidy so that the average user is not affected by a huge margin.

According to sources, the LPG prices have been rising incessantly in the recent years, especially since the time when Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) was launched. 

Normally, LPG rates are revised at the beginning of every month. However, the rate revisal comes alomst 10 days late and many have opined that the rate revisal was postponed on account of the Delhi Assembly elections. 

The government subsidy has been increased from Rs 153.86 per cylinder to Rs 291.48. For PMUY beneficiaries, the subsidy has increased from Rs 174.86 to Rs 312.48 per cylinder. This takes the actual rate of an LPG cylinder to Rs. 567.02 for domestic users and Rs. 546.02 for PMUY users.
