The Tamil Nadu Police department is considered to be the second best in the world, behind only Scotland Yard. However, a recent incident has shown that the other departments in Tamil Nadu are as equally good as the Police! Prompt action by the Tamil Nadu Fire Service personnel has rescued a man from committing suicide by jumping off a water storage tank! A video of this rescue mission has been going viral online and the efforts of the Fire Service are being hailed by everybody! A man who was affected by land grabbing in Palayamkottai district of Tamil Nadu, decided to end his life by suicide and climbed to the top of a high-rise water storage tank to jump from there. A huge crowd had gathered below and the authorities were immediately informed of the situation.

Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot and tried to calm the man and asked him to step back. However, the man was not willing to listen and just as he was about to jump off the water tank, firemen who were on the tank rushed to him in seconds and pulled him away from danger. It took nearly three firemen to restrain the man attempting suicide and the video of this incident show them immediately covering up the face of the man, to prevent unwanted publicity for him. The man in question has been identified as Ganesan (45), from Melapalayam in Tirunelveli district. He had repeatedly complained to the authorities about his land being grabbed from him and encroached by somebody else but no action from their end, had left him frustrated.

Ganesan had earlier been involved in a number of legal protests in a bid to reclaim his lost land and had also gone on a hunger strike in an attempt to get his land back. He chose suicide as the last recourse, when none of his other attempts proved to be effective. On Independence Day (August 15th), Ganesan climbed atop the high-rise water storage tank in Xavier Nagar, near the Palayamkottai New Bus Stand and decided to commit suicide. Thankfully, this attempt was foiled by the Fire Service Station head Veeraraj and his team. All those gathered at the spot expressed their gratitude and appreciation to Veeraraj and his team. Let's hope Ganesan gets justice in his land grabbin case and we wish all those involved in the rescue mission, a very hearty congratulations on a job well done!
