Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Tuesday announced that the SSLC exams for the year 2019-20 have been cancelled and all students will be promoted without any examinations. He further stated that the exams for the pending subjects for class 11 students have also been cancelled while adding that the remaining papers for the Plus Two examinations have been postponed with the dates to be announced on a later date. 

CM Edappadi Palaniswami addressing the media on Tuesday said, "Taking into consideration the welfare of the students and the views presented by parents, the board examinations for class 10 scheduled to take place between June 15 and June 25 and the pending subjects for class 11 are cancelled with the students declared for promotion,"

Palaniswami added, "Students will be promoted based on 80 percent of the marks they had scored in the quarterly and half yearly examinations while 20 percent marks will be given upon reviewing their attendance,". He also said, "Under present circumstances, health experts have said that the coronavirus infection might not come down in the days ahead as the number of cases are increasing in Chennai and a few other districts across the state. Hence, considering all these factors and the requests of the parents in review of the infection situation in the state, the government has decided to cancel the above examinations in order to protect students from the disease,"
