Chennai Super Kings' quarantine period in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) ahead of the upcoming thirteenth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been extended, according to latest reports. CSK's training camp for IPL 2020 has been postponed as a result to September 1, as per a report by ESPNcricinfo. The three-time champions landed in Dubai on August 21 and were expected to begin training for the tournament on Friday, but have now extended their quarantine period beyond the mandatory six-day period recommended by the IPL. Set to be held from September 19 to November 10, the cash-rich 53-day tournament's schedule is yet to be announced.

As of now, it is unknown why the Chennai Super Kings have chosen to remain indoors at the team hotel in Dubai. Furthermore, an official communication is yet to be sent out by the franchise. IPL's COVID-19 protocols state that all teams are required to undergo a test upon their arrival at the airport upon their arrival in the UAE, followed by three different tests on days 1, 3 and 5, during the mandatory six-day quarantine at the team hotel. The teams will be permitted to begin their training only after all the test results are declared negative.

With the Super Kings now extending their quarantine, it will be the last franchise to begin training for the tournament as Rajasthan Royals already finished two training sessions. The 2008 IPL winners along with two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders were the first two teams to arrive in the UAE. Four-time trophy winners, Mumbai Indians, who are the defending champions, are scheduled to begin their first training session in Abu Dhabi on Friday, while Delhi Capitals will start their training on Saturday.

A short camp at Chennai was conducted by the Chennai Super Kings before the squad headed to the UAE. Last year's runners-up, CSK, held a six-day camp at Chepauk from August 15-20, which saw captain MS Dhoni train alongside Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, Piyush Chawla, Deepak Chahar under bowling coach L Balaji.
