Ever since today morning, there have been a number of news reports that the Indian Army has been carrying out "Pinpoint Strikes" on terror launchpads in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). These reports also detailed that these strikes were being carried out to stop Pakistan from maximising their infiltration of terrorists into India, before the peak winter season starts here. Some reports went on to even detail the number of terror launchpads being striked at as well as even the number of casualties resulting from these strikes. Though these reports gave a sense of accomplishment, similar to the "Surgical Strikes" carried out by the Indian Army, earlier on the terrorist locations, it seems our faith has been misplaced.
A clarification issued by the Indian Army Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) - Lieutenant General Paramjit Singh says that the Indian Army has not carried out any attack on regions in Pakistan occupied Kashmir. He said, "Reports of Indian Army's action in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) across the Line of Control are fake." The Indian Army was forced to issue this clarification, as almost all major media outlets had begun carrying news of these purported "pinpoint strikes". However, these statements of attacks, were backed by data on what lead to these attacks.
Right from the time the Narendra Modi government revoked Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir, there has been unrest in the region. Over the past few weeks, the Pakistan Army has been aggressively targeting civilians on the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC), with indiscriminate firing using heavy calibre artillery guns. This firing has been done as a cover to help terrorists infiltrate into India, under cover. Data states that already 21 Indian civilians have lost their lives to Pakistani firing in 2020 so far, compared to the 18 people killed in the entirety of 2019!
