Ever since the United States of America decided to pull back their troops from Afghanistan, the Afghan troops and the Taliban have been at an impasse and the Taliban has been carrying out a number of deadly attacks on Afghanistan soil! Though peace talks are happening between the two warring groups in Doha, Qatar, a resolution seems nowhere in sight! Meanwhile, the Taliban attacks are only continuing to gain in intensity, which in turn is resulting in the killing of innocent civilians! The US Secretary of State - Mike Pompeo is currently in Qatar, to mediate between the leaders of Afghanistan and the Taliban but just hours before this meeting was scheduled to happens, a series of rockets ripped through the centre of Kabul and other places in Afghanistan!
Early today morning, about 23 rockets struck at various places in the heart of Kabul, raising alarms in the diplomatic quarters of the Afghanistan Capital. These rocket attacks have killed 8 people and injured 31 others. Reports state that there were 23 rockets in total, which detonated in today's attack. The attacks were concentrated on Central and North Kabul, which includes the heavily fortified Green Zone, housing the international embassies and the offices of international firms. This is considered to be the biggest among the recent violent attacks, sweeping Afghanistan, especially targetting Kabul. A statement from the Iranian Embassy revealed that its main building had been hit by fragments of a rocket which detonated within its premises. Thankfully, nobody within the compound had gotten injured.
The Afghanistan Interior Ministry's Spokesman - Tariq Arian blamed the Taliban for these attacks and stated that these "terrorists" had fired a total of 23 rockets. He also acknowledged that the death toll was at 8 people with 31 others injured but added that the numbers could increase as more reports poured in. However, the Taliban has denied responsibility for these attacks, stating that they do not blindly fire on public places. The Pentagon has also stated earlier this week that it would reduce the presence of American troops in Afghanistan by about 50%. Currently, there are about 4,500 troops on ground and America has proposed to reduce it to 2,500! Reports state that the Afghanistan government is hoping for a policy change under the new Joe Biden government in the USA. Stay tuned for updates...
