It is common knowledge that being treated for the COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus at private hospitals is very expensive. We recently gathered some information on this subject and posted that around Rs. 10 lakhs to Rs. 15 Lakhs were needed for an individual's treatment in some leading private hospitals in Chennai. Most of the Government hospitals and treatment centres are full and some people have no other go but to get treated in private hospitals, despite not being able to afford the treatment costs! Now, the Tamil Nadu government has come up with the rate structure that all private hospitals treating COVID patients, must follow!

TN Govt fixes cost for private COVID treatment

According to this new structure, hospitals coming under Class A1, A2, A3 & A4, can charge upto Rs. 5000 in their General Ward for treating patients who display mild or no symptoms of the virus. Treatment in ICU of A1 & A2 hospitals can cost between Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 15,000 while for ICU wards in A3 & A4 hospitals, the rate should be between Rs. 9,500 and Rs. 13,500! These rates have all been covered under the Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS) and all private hospitals have to reserve 25% of their beds for treating COVID patients. The TN Health Minister Dr. C Vijayabhaskar has mentioned that any hospitals found charging more than this fixed rate would be facing strict action and that they might be removed from the CMCHIS.
