2020 would have begun with a bang for most people, doing what they love doing on New Year's Eve - partying with friends or family, meeting people, visiting their favourite place of worship or whatever they thought would have rung in a wonderful new year for them. However, a few months down the line, the year turned into a nightmare that seemed like it would never end, following the outbreak of the COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus Pandemic! However, with normalcy slowly returning and day-to-day life getting back to how it was earlier, it looked like people had begun accepting the situation and moving on. With Christmas and New Year 2021 just around the corner, many people had even begun preparing and making plans on how to celebrate this New Year's Eve. Some hotels and resorts around Chennai had also begun advertising their New Year's eve parties and celebration plans!
Unfortunately, it looks like none of these are going to happen! Latest reports state that the Tamil Nadu government has banned all public gatherings and parties on December 31st night! If this were to be true, all parties in resorts and the usual gathering of people on roads and along the beaches, would also not be happening. Some reputed sources claim that there is going to be a strict ban against people visiting the beaches in Chennai, on December 31st and January 1st! Those who had been thinking of going to neighbouring states for partying will also be disappointed as there are reports that the Karnataka government will also be imposing a strict lockdown in the state from December 27th till Jan 02nd! Some reports also state that the Kerala government will also be imposing a similar ban on New Year parties.
The order from the Tamil Nadu government is said to be a total ban on New Year celebrations in clubs, beaches, resorts and restaurants for 2 days - December 31st and January 01st! This will definitely be a huge blow for not just those who want to party but for the establishments that generate a profit from this. The hotel & hospitality industry is sure to take quite a hit because of this. However, with all the new learnings that we have gained over this year, it looks like celebrating inside our own houses with just our close friends and family, would be the most safe and secure way to ring in 2021!
