The results for the Class XI board examinations will be declared on July 31 at 9:30AM, the Directorate of Government Examinations in Tamil Nadu announced on Wednesday. As many as eight lakh students appeared for the exams, which were held between March 4 to Match 23, with the final exam scheduled to be conducted on March 26 eventually getting cancelled due to the nationwide lockdown imposed to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Students will also be able to see their results in the form of SMS that will be sent to their registered mobile numbers. The dates for revaluation, retotalling and answer sheets copy will be announced later, the Directorate of Government Examinations said in their statement. 

Along with the Class XI board exam results, the results for Class XII re-exam will also be announced on July 31. A total of 519 students had appeared for the Class 12 exams held on July 27 across 293 exam centres in the state. 

Tamil Nadu School Education Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan addressing the media on Wednesday at Kodiveri, Gobichettipalayam was asked the reason for less number of students re-appearing for the Plus Two exams held on July 27 to which he replied saying 34,842 students did not write their exam on March 24 and their willingness was sought for which the government had made all the necessary arrangements, but they did not show up. 

In a statement, he also said that strong action will be taken against schools that use flex banners, hoardings and advertisement boards carrying the names of the students who scored top marks in the board examinations. He added that a directive has already been issued by the school education department to institutions in the State to not use banners announcing the toppers. When queried about whether the government was planning to award marks or grades to Class X students, he stated that it was a confidential matter for now and would be disclosed later.
