The year 2021 has dawned nice & bright for most of us, with the identifying of some potent vaccines to fight against the deadly COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus, which had been hurting the entire world for almost the whole of 2020! This year has also begun on a historic note for Team India, which achieved a massive feat by winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, for the second time in Australia itself. This victory was made all the more sweeter, when it was achieved by becoming the first team to defeat Australia at its fortress - The Gabba, for the first time in 32 years! The icing on the cake was that the Indian Cricket Team achieved all of this, without the services of more than 7 of their first-choice Test cricketers!

Having lost numerous top-flight cricketers to injuries and other reasons like Paternity leave, the Indians fielded a very inexperienced team in the all-important 4th and final Test at the Gabba, in Brisbane! Youngsters T Natarajan and Washington Sundar were handed their Test debuts, when these two players had originally been in the squad only as nets bowlers! However, both these youngsters had already proven their worth and talent in the limited-overs leg of this tour and when given a chance in Tests, they went on to showcase their mettle and more importantly, India's bench strength! Coming from behind and winning this 4th Test, India found a number of heroes with the most notable among them being Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Cheteshwar Pujara and T Natarajan! Washington Sundar's story is well known among cricketing circles in Tamil Nadu and his meteoric rise to the national side has been hailed by many!

Now, to felicitate Washington Sundar's achievements and his contribution to India's historic win against Australia in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Prince of Arcot - one of the last recognised royal family members in Tamil Nadu, has honoured the youngster! In an evening jointly hosted by Nawabzada Mohammed Asif Ali - the elder son and Dewan to the Prince of Arcot, along with Sundar's management agency - WhiteLeaf Talent, Washington Sundar was felicitated by the Prince of Arcot - Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali. This event was held at the Amir Mahal, the Nawab's ancestoral residence, in Chennai. At the felicitation event, the Nawab said, "It is a matter of great pride that this boy whom we have seen as a kid play cricket in Amir Mahal, is representing our nation today. It is his sheer hard work, dedication and determination that has made him achieve this recognition in this world." Way to go Washington Sundar!
