The final leg of the Indian Premier League 2020 is upon us! The last match of the league stage happened today and it was a testament to the extremely high levels of competition in this year's tournament that a Playoffs spot was up for grabs, even before the last match of the league stage. If SRH win today's match against MI, then they would go into the Playoffs but if they lose, KKR would make it to the top 4! With everything at stake, Sunrisers Hyderabad and the comfortably qualified and top ranked team Mumbai Indians, clashed today. Rohit Sharma was back in the team and walked out to the toss, alongside Warner. Warner won the toss and decided to bowl first, keeping the dew in the later half of the match, in mind! MI rested both their frontline bowlers - Bumrah and Boult with SRH replacing Abhishek Sharma with Priyam Garg. Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock opened the innings for MI but the SRH bowlers were bang on target and removed a rusty Rohit in the 3rd ball of the 3rd over. QDK thumped the 1st wicket-taker Sandeep Sharma for a 4 and two 6s but Sandeep got back with QDK's wicket! Suryakumar Yadav seemed in pristine touch and was middling the ball well as MI reached 48/2 at the end of the Powerplay.
The SRH bowlers were pitching in with some tight overs, till Rashid Khan was hit for 13 runs in the 10th over, taking MI to 78/2! However, Shahbaz Nadeem broke the back of the MI batting with 2 big wickets in the 12th over, which was followed by Rashid Khan scalping Tiwary in the 13th! Pollard and Ishan Kishan began sizing up the bowlers but SRH were up to the task. Sandeep Sharma was carted for a 6 by Kishan but was immediately removed, taking Sandeep's tally to 3 wickets for the night. Holder came back and removed Nathan Coulter-Nile. Pollard took Natarajan for 3 consecutive 6s in the 19th over and followed it up with 1 more in the 20th, before fellow Caribbean - Holder, got him bowled! MI ended their innings on 149/8, setting SRH a target of 150 to make it to the Playoffs! KKR would definitely have been wary of the situation, as MI were not playing their full-strength side. Like in recent times, Warner and Saha walked out to open for SRH.
After a sedate 1st over, surprisingly it was Saha who opened up and got a 4 & a 6 with another couple of boundaries in the next over. Warner proved that he was no lesser by smashing 3 fours in the very next over and both batsmen shared the honours with a boundary each, in the next over. By the end of the Powerplay, SRH were cruising along at 56 for no loss and the MI bowlers did not seem to be even remotely close to troubling the SRH batsmen! None of the bowlers seemed to be creating any sort of issues with the ball and SRH raced away to 89/0, in 10 overs! Warner got to yet another 50 with a 6, while Saha got there in the same over with a single. Warner decided not to waste any more time and began attacking the bowlers and when SRH reached their target in the first ball of the 18th over, the SRH captain had gotten 85 runs with Saha being not out on 58! SRH had qualified for the Playoffs and even better, had moved into third place, above RCB! Now, with the league stages having been done and dusted with, the serious games of the Playoffs, begin on Thursday (November 5th). Shahbaz Nadeem was selected for the Player of the Match award for his stingy and accurate spell of 2/19! Join us for the Playoffs, in a day's time!
