In the second match of today's double-header, two teams with an equal chance of qualifying for the Playoffs - KKR & RR clashed in what was touted to be a virtual semi-final! Already, the first match had seen CSK spoil KXIP's chances of qualifying for the Playoffs with a 9-Wicket win! Rajasthan won the toss and asked KKR to bat first. RR decided to retain the same team while Russel and Mavi came in for KKR at the expense of Ferguson and Rinku Singh. Archer provided a great start to RR by taking out Rana for a Golden Duck, off the 2nd ball of the match! However, Shubman Gill began with a lot of promise and cracked three 4s off the 2nd over, bowled by Varun Aaron! Gopal came on to bowl the 4th over and was taken for four 4s, two each by Gill and Tripathi. By the end of the Powerplay, KKR were at a healthy 55/1 and looked set for a big score. However, Tewatia took out the dangerous Gill for 36 in the 9th over and also removed Narine for a Duck, in the same over. Captain Morgan joined Tripathi at the crease and the duo played out some cautious overs.
The last ball of the 12th over saw Gopal take out Tripathi, to a good catch by Uthappa. KKR were now 94/4 at the end of 12 overs. Tewatia came on the next over and had Dinesh Karthik out for a Golden Duck, leaving KKR on 99/4, bringing out Russel to join Morgan. Morgan decided to take the assault to the RR camp and tore apart the 14th over bowled by Gopal for 21 runs. Russel joined in the next over and smashed Archer for 11 runs. Tyagi came on to bowl the 16th over and was greeted by two back-to-back 6s by Russel but fell off the third ball to a good catch by substitute Miller. The bowlers held on for a couple of tight overs before Cummins and Morgan targeted the 19th over, bowled by Stokes. They scored 24 runs in the over and Morgan too reached a half-century, making it his first of this season. Tyagi bowled the 20th over and had Cummins caught by Samson before Morgan hit a 6 off the last ball to remain not-out on 68. KKR had scored a very decent 191/7 in their 20 overs and set RR a target of 191 to win!
Uthappa kicked off RR's chase with a huge 6 off Cummins and had scored 19 off the first 5 balls of the over, with Stokes also belting a 4 and a 6. However, Cummins had the last laugh as he took out Uthappa off the last ball of his 1st over. Stokes seemed to be playing with a gung-ho attitude but things unravelled very quickly for RR as they lost Stokes and Smith to the 1st and last balls of the 3rd over of the innings, bowled by Cummins. RR were already reeling at 32/3, after 3.0 overs. Samson too didn't want around long and fell to Mavi in the 4th over and RR were in serious trouble. Cummins was on fire as he removed Riyan Parag in the 5th over to be showing figures of 3-0-29-4! Tewatia and Buttler combined together in the middle and took RR to 41/5 off their Powerplay and began consolidating their innings. Both the batsmen began playing positively and a number of boundaries came their way. However, Varun Chakravarthy took out Buttler in the 11th over to leave KKr on 81/6, looking at a huge defeat. Tewatia continued hitting the long ball but fell to Varun after making a valiant 31, in the 15th over. Gopal swung his bat around and notched up two 4s off Narine's bowling but Archer fell to Nagarkoti in the 18th over. Mavi then caught & bowled Karthik Tyagi, leaving RR on 129/1! Aaron just played out the last over to take RR to 131/9, handing KKR a 60-run win! Pat Cummins was adjudged the Player of the Match for his splending spell! KKR have now gone to the 4th position on the Points Table, while RR crashed to last position. With just 2 more league matches to go, the race to see who all quallify for the Playoffs, is getting interesting.
