In what has come as a major blow for Chennai Super Kings fans ahead of the upcoming thirteenth season of the Indian Premier League to be held from September 19 to November 10, a few staff members including a current India limited-overs bowler have tested positive for COVID-19, as per a report by news agency, Press Trust of India. As of now, the names of those who have tested positive for the novel coronavirus are unknown, and is said to be the reason behind CSK postponing their practice (originally scheduled to begin on Friday) by a few more days. As a result, the team's quarantine period has been rescheduled till September 1.

It is further being reported that the entire CSK contingent had to undergo a fourth COVID-19 test on Friday in order to measure the extent of its spread. The three-time IPL champions arrived in the UAE on August 21 and had undergone three COVID-19 tests as per the protocols made mandatory by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) before they could start their practice.

Speaking to PTI, a senior IPL source is quoted to have said, "Yes, a right-arm medium fast bowler, who has recently played for India, along with a few staff members have tested positive for COVID-19,". The official further added, "As far as we know, one of the senior-most officials of the CSK management and his wife, and at least two members of their social media team are also COVID-19 positive."

The COVID-19 test results are expected to come out on Saturday. As a result, CSK will now be the last team to start their practice after participating in a six-day preparatory session in Chennai before departing for UAE. Among the players who took part in the camp were MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, Piyush Chawla, Deepak Chahar along with bowling coach L Balaji.
