The Indian Premier League (IPL) is considered to be one of the biggest cricket carnivals in the T20 world! However, even whether this year's edition of the tournament would happen, had been a huge question mark, with the outbreak of the COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus Pandemic causing the entire world to go into lockdown mode. However, with the T20 World Cup being pushed to next year, it created a window for the IPL 2020 to happen. The organisers however didn't want to risk conducting the event in India, where the COVID numbers are still very high. The IPL 2020 tournament is all set to get underway in the UAE, from September 19th! This will also mark the first time that spectators get to see MS Dhoni in action, after last year's World Cup Semi-Final loss to New Zealand.
What started off as a dream come true, almost immediately began souring for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans. Almost as soon as arriving in the UAE, squads of all the franchises underwent COVID tests and unfortunately, 13 members of the CSK squad tested positive. This included CSK's key fast bowler - Deepak Chahar and batsman Ruturaj Gaekwad! Almost soon afterwards, CSK's batting mainstay and vice-captain - Suresh Raina, left the squad and returned to India amidst a lot of controversy. Following this, CSK spinner Harbhajan Singh also pulled out of IPL 2020, citing personal reasons. This left the CSK squad depleted and all its fans extremely disappointed.
However, things seem to be getting better for CSK and the fans can now rejoice! Deepak Chahar has twice tested negative for COVID and returned to the team's bio-secure bubble! Deepak Chahar and the rest of the CSK squad members who had tested positive for COVID had been moved to a quarantine facility and we now hear that except for Ruturaj Gaekwad, all the other CSK members have re-joined the squad. CSK announced Deepak Chahar's return with a lot of excitement. However, Chahar would have to undergo further fitness tests, including a cardiac test put in place by the BCCI's fitness team, before he can join the rest of his teammates in training. CSK are yet to name replacements for Raina and Harbhajan Singh. Stay tuned for updates...
