MS Dhoni's continued selection of underperforming players invites strong criticism!

A fact that everybody has to get used to is that, 2020 is no ordinary year. This year has changed quite a lot or atleast a little in everybody's lives! Following the outbreak of the COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus Pandemic and an extended lockdown period of nearly 6 months, people are learning to live in the "new normal"! However, the announcement that this year the Indian Premier League (IPL) would happen, came as a welcome news for cricket lovers and more so for MS Dhoni fans as the last they had seen of him was the unfortunate run-out in last year's ODI World Cup match against New Zealand. While everybody was eagerly waiting to see him in the yellow jersey, he threw a bombshell by announcing his retirement from international cricket, on August 15th! However, Chennai Super Kings fans were still hopeful for they knew that they would be seeing their 'Thala Dhoni' in "Yellove"!
The IPL season kickstarted with last year's finalists CSK and Mumbai Indians taking on each other in the tournament opener! There was profound joy for CSK as they returned the heartbreak of the final and handed MI a drubbing in the first match itself! Unfortunately, things began taking a downward turn for CSK since then and even after the halfway point of the tournament, for the first time ever CSK are on the bottom of the Points Table. Now, this is something definitely new for the only team in the IPL to have progressed to the Playoffs of every single edition so far! However, the prospects of CSK making it to IPL 2020's Playoffs seem highly unlikely as they suffered their 7th defeat of the tournament yesterday, against Rajasthan Royals. There have been a number of confusions as well as injury concerns for CSK but the most baffling thing has been the team selection so far! Most of the people are wondering why Kedar Jadhav and Piyush Chawla were still being given chances when there are a number of youngsters in the side and N Jagadeesan showed so much promise in the only game he got so far!
After yesterday's loss to RR, former Indian opener and Chairman of the Selection Committee - Kris Srikkant has slammed MSD's decision to continue giving chances to underperforming players and termed his selection calls as "ridiculous"! Dhoni has often spoken about following the processes, irrespective of the results but Srikkanth slammed that too and said, "I will never accept what Dhoni is saying about this process." After yesterday's match at the presentation ceremony, Dhoni mentioned that the youngsters in the squad had not showed enough spark to select them over the experienced players who were not performing to the expected levels. Expressing his outrage at all this, Srikkanth lambasted, "This process he keeps talking about is meaningless. You keep talking about process, process... but the process of selection itself is wrong. What is Dhoni's deal? He says Jagadeesan doesn't have spark but does 'scooter' Jadhav have that spark? This is ridiculous. I will not accept this answer today. All this talk of process and Chennai's tournament itself is over." MSD's comments have been receiving a lot of flak on social media, as well. With CSK's chances of making it to the Playoffs almost gone, let's see if atleast the youngsters get a chance to play a few games now.
