With admissions for students in colleges across the country underway, a few pranksters have gone the extra mile in creating mischief by adding names of popular public figures on the enrollment lists. After the names of Bollywood actor Sunny Leone and singer Neha Kakkar popped on the enrollment lists in colleges in West Bengal, popular Japanese cartoon character Shinchan Nohara has garnered a similar distinction in the state after its name was included in the merit list of Siliguri College in north Bengal.

Shinchan's name appeared at the top of the BSc (Honours) merit list of Siliguri College, an official of the institution informed the news agency Press Trust of India (PTI). "The name was immediately removed and a fresh list put up on the college website. We have lodged a police complaint as it was an act of mischief,". the official said in a statement.

According to reports, the compilation of the merit list is outsourced to an agency by the college administration and based on the details provided by the candidates when they are applying online. However, the details of the students will be examined thoroughly by the institution's authorities prior to the beginning of their classes, the official added.

This is the latest of the mischiefs pulled by pranksters after singer Neha Kakkar's name appeared on the BA English (Honours) merit list roll of Malda's Manikchak College, while actor Sunny Leone's name made its way onto the lists of three other colleges in West Bengal. Authorities of all these four colleges have filed complaints with Cyber cells of the police.

An announcement was made by the West Bengal government not long back in regard to the undergraduate courses admissions. The state had said that admissions will be taking place completely online this year, while adding that no processing fee will be charged in view of the hardships caused due to the coronavirus pandemic crisis.
