In recent times, the Central Government of India banned a number of Chinese apps citing security reasons and that these apps had been used by China to spy on Indian citizens. This lead to the removal of very popular apps like TikTok and PubG! Now, we hear that Google itself has taken down a couple of very popular apps from its Play Store. Google has removed the Paytm and Paytm First Games apps from its Play Store, for repeated violations of its policies! Reports state that the financial app Paytm was removed for violating Google's Play Store gambling policies. Google has issued a statement on Paytm violating "play gambling policies in India."
However, other apps by Paytm like the Paytm for Business, Paytm Money and Paytm Mall continue to be available on Play Store. A blog post by Google says, "Google Play is designed to provide a safe and secure experience for our customers while also giving developers the platform and tools they need to build sustainable businesses. Out global policies have always been designed with that goal in mind, considering the good of all our stakeholders. We have the same goals for our gambling policy. We don't allow online casinos or support any unregulated gambling apps that facilitate sports betting. This includes if an app leads consumers to an external website that allows them to participate in paid tournaments to win real money or cash prizes, it is a violation of our policies."
A report states that when an app violates their policies, Google Play notifies the developer and take down the app from their Play Store till the developer brings the app into compliance. Responding to this incident, Paytm said, "Dear Paytm'ers (Paytm users), Paytm Android App is temporarily unavailableon Google's Play Store for new downloads or updates. It will be back very soon." It also added that, "All your money is completely safe, and you can continue to enjoy our Paytm app as normal." However, all these apps are still available for the iOS platform in the Apple App Store! Stay tuned for updates...
