Chennai Super Kings's CEO KS Viswanathan had earlier in the day in an interaction with news agency Press Trust of India (PTI) said that all members of contingent, except for the 13 who tested positive for COVID-19 early last week, had come out negative in their latest test results. Initially, he stated that even the 13 members, including Deepak Chahar and India A batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad, were also among those who tested negative in the COVID-19 tests conducted on Monday. However, Viswanathan later revised his statement saying, "All others, apart from the 13, have tested negative for COVID-19. They will have to undergo another test on Thursday, September 3. We are likely to start training on Friday, September 4,". He further added, "Deepak and Ruturaj will complete their 14-day quarantine and then join training after two negative tests as per protocol,".
The CSK contingent reached the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on August 21 to begin training for the upcoming thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). With the squad members testing positive for COVID-19, the team has suffered a setback in beginning their training, but will be looking forward to coming out roaring under captain MS Dhoni. Fans will be expecting the three-time champions to emerge triumphant in the cash-rich 53-day tournament scheduled to be held from September 19 to November 10 in three UAE venues - Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah.
