It is well known that the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), which is in power in the Central Government, has an alliance with the ruling party in Tamil Nadu - the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). With the Tamil Nadu State Assembly elections set to happen towards the middle of 2021, all the parties in the state have begun their preparations for this. Alliances are being planned and coalitions are being formed to contest the elections, with strategies in mind. However, the BJP has been trying very aggressively to gain a foothold by its own, within Tamil Nadu, which has staunchly supported only Dravidian parties to rule the state.

Today, the senior BJP leader and the Union Home Minister Amit Shah, visited Chennai. His visit was speculated to be based on seat sharing with the AIADMK, in the upcoming elections. Earlier, there had been some rumours about the BJP-AIADMK coalition not contesting the upcoming elections together but BJP contesting the elections separately, with their own candidates contesting in all the constituencies of TN. All of this has now been put to rest with the TN Deputy Chief Minister - O Panneerselvam, stating that the AIADMK alliance with BJP would continue for the upcoming TN State Assembly elections in 2021 too!

During his visit, Amit Shah also congratulated the TN government led by Edappadi K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam, for their efforts in handling the COVID situation. In this visit, Amit Shah also laid the foundation for the Phase-II of the Chennai Metro Rail project, which is being built at a cost of Rs. 61,843 crores. He also virtually dedicated the new water reservoir at Thervaikandigai, which is being built at a cost of Rs. 380 Crores, to the people of Chennai. At the event, Amit Shah also paid his respects to the late legendary AIADMK leaders and former TN Chief Ministers - MGR and J Jayalalithaa. Reports state that Amit Shah is expected to lay the founding stones and inaugurate a number of other infrastructure projects, to help in TN's development!
