India provides North Korea with USD 1 million worth of medical assistance!
Ever since the outbreak of the COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus Pandemic, India has been a world leader in helping other countries! India sent medicines and other medical equipment to a number of other countries. The Indian government also coordinated with the governments of other countries to send back their citizens who had been stranded here because of the international travel ban! Just yeaterday, we had reported that India and Israel would be joining hands to identify a rapid testing kit for COVID, which would be able to identify the presence of the virus in people, in as early as 30 seconds! Now, we have another incident of India's generosity in these troubling times!
The Ministry of External Affairs has revealed that India has sent medical assistance worth 1 million USD to North Korea! Being sensitive of the acute shortage of medicines in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), India has decided on helping out by sending $1 million worth of anti-tuberculosis medicines! This decision was arrived at after a request from the World Health Organization (WHO), in this regard! This assistance is part of an ongoing WHO anti-tuberculosis programme by WHO in the DPRK! The consignment of medicines was handed over to DPRK authorities by the Indian Ambassador to that country - Atul Malhari Gotsurve, in the presence of WHO representatives!
North Korea has been facing a major problem due to Tuberculosis. According to records, this deadly disease has killed more people so far, than all the pandemics combined. The WHO reported that North Korea had recorded about 131,000 cases of Tuberculosis in 2017 alone and of these, about 16,000 people lost their lives to it.
