2009 Academy winner A.R. Rahman returned to Kodak theatre for the 84th Academy Awards as part of the Oscar superband which was headed by veteran composer Hans Zimmer, who was the musical consultant for Academy Awards show this year. "Oscar sangamam - If you are watching the Oscars live, catch our Oscar superband headed by Hans Zimmer perform tonight," Rahman posted on his social networking page with a picture of him along with his co-performers of the band.

The 46-year-old music maestro was presented the Oscars for best original score and best original song from the movie SlumdogMillionaire, directed by Danny Boyle in 2009. In 2010 he was nominated for 127 hours and he even performed his nominated song on stage.

The ceremony also featured a beautiful performance by Grammy Award winner Esperanza Spalding. She sang Louis Armstrong's 'What a Wonderful World' as a tribute to the likes of Jane Russell, Whitney Houston, Elizabeth Taylor and Etta James, who had passed away in the past 12 months.
