Ocean's 8 is a 2018 American heist comedy film directed by Gary Ross and written by Ross and Olivia Milch. The film is a spin-off from Steven Soderbergh's Ocean's trilogy and features an ensemble cast, including Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter.
Sandra Bullock who is a professional thief plans a heist. She assembles a team of ladies who can help her out to complete this job. How the ladies finishes off things in style forms the remaining story.
Follows the usual template of a con movie by doing the plan for the rob, then execute it with a bang and packs up with twists. But the treatment differs here because of the lead cast being full of ladies.
All the eight ladies are impressive. But special mentions are Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter. They are given quirky characterizations and have utilized with style and swag.
Script is so simplistic and a much familiar one which we’re seeing over the years. Takes off in an unhurried pace but becomes engaging when the whole team is set to go. Dialogues are wacky and some funny reactions in serious situations are enjoyable.
Technical aspects are strong, camera work is rich and enhances the viewing experience. Editing is crisp and after a point, nowhere the flow gets a pause. Costumes are lovely, mainly for Anne Hathaway in the grand party portions. Accessories look real and a proper research has gone through the process by the art department.
The whole robbery scene is staged in a gripping manner by incorporating sufficient commercial ideas. The detective sequences are also interest and the climax stands out with couple of hard to predict twists.
