Two-time Academy Award-winning actor and Hollywood superstar Tom Hanks has confirmed that he and his wife, Rita Wilson, have been diagnosed with coronavirus while they were traveling in Australia for his upcoming film, Elvis, based on iconic American singer Elvis Presley. Taking to his Twitter page, Tom Hanks posted a statement saying, "Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive,".

Tom Hanks further elaborated, "Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no? We’ll keep the world posted and updated. The makers of Elvis, Warner Bros. Entertainment too in a statement have confirmed about Tom Hanks taking part in the pre-production work for the upcoming film saying, "We are working closely with the appropriate Australian health agencies to identify and contact anyone who may have come in direct contact with the individual. The health and safety of our company members is always our top priority, and we are taking precautions to protect everyone who works on our productions around the world,".

Tom Hanks will be portraying the role of Elvis Presley's manager, Colonel Tom Parker, in Elvis with actor Austin Butler playing Presley and Baz Luhrmann taking to the director's chair with plans to bring it to theatres on October 1, 2021. Apart from Elvis, Tom Hanks will next be seen in Greyhound, which has him serving as the screenwriter with the upcoming war film scheduled for a release on June 12 this year. Likewise, his sci-fi film, BIOS, has been announced for an October 2 worldwide theatrical outing later this year followed by the drama film, News of the World, scheduled to hit screens as a Christmas release.
