Miley Cyrus in The Last Song

Walt Disney's next movie titled The Last Song is based on a book by celebrated novelist Nicholas Sparks. This is not the first timehis story is being made into a movie. A Walk to Remember and The Notebook are two of his popular works that madesuccessful transitions to celluloid. Followingthat example, The Last Songpromises to be a movingstory of love. Directed by Julie Anne Robinson, the movie stars teen star Miley Cyrus, whose previous movie Hannah Montana was a winner at the box office.

The Last Song tells the story of an estranged fathertrying to reconnect with his city-bred daughter who is initially not too keen about the summer she has to spend with him in a small Southern beach town. The movie is all about salvaging lost relationships, finding new love and second chances.

“I read the script and I was so touched by it,” says Greg Kinnear who plays the father. “Nicholas Sparks has an incredible sensitivity towards families. He’s written an interesting story about people who at the onset seem to have very little chance of connecting. In the end, not everything is tied up in a perfect bow, which is a lot like real life.”

As for Miley, who is a big fan of Nicholas' previous works, The Last Song means a lot. “His work has great, positive messages. To me, the best thing is that kids love it but it's also mature enough to appeal to adults. It’s unusual to find that kind of balance,” say Miley.

Talking about his own work, Nicholas says, “This is not a dreamy fantasy. It is about real love on a number of levels; the love between a parent and child, young love blooming for the first time, the fondness and caring between mature adults.”

The Last Song hits screens on May 7th 2010.
