Released amidst massive hype and excitement, Avengers: Endgame, the sequel to last year’s blockbuster, Avengers: Infinity War, took a blockbuster box office opening after its worldwide release on April 26. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the comicbook superhero action film jointly directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo is the 22nd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and has now officially become the highest-grossing film in the world with an estimated $2.790.2 billion edging out acclaimed filmmaker James Cameron’s mega blockbuster, Avatar, which stands at $2,789.7 billion after being released in 2009; thereby ending the reign of the epic sci-fi action adventure’s streak at the top of the league for nearly a decade. With Avengers: Endgame now the highest-grossing film of all time in the world, director James Cameron conveyed his wishes to Marvel Studios as well as the Avengers team by releasing a new poster of the Iron Man character surrounded by alien jellyfish that are shown in Avatar along with a congratulatory message.
