'Thalapathy' Vijay's Beast released recently took a sensational opening in theatres worldwide and has turned out to be yet another major box office success for the superstar. Currently working in the tentatively titled Thalapathy 66 opposite Rashmika Mandanna being directed by Vamshi Paidipally under Dil Raju's Sri Venkateswara Creations banner, the film is billed to be a family-centric venture along the lines of Vijay's Poove Unakkaga and Thulladha Manamum Thullum. That being said, there has been quite a lot of talk surrounding Vijay's next, which is being called Thalapathy 67 and will reportedly see the actor reuniting with director Lokesh Kanagaraj after their 2021 blockbuster Master.

A while back, it was stated that Thalapathy 67 would be produced by Lalit Kumar's 7 Screen Studios banner, with DT Next now reporting that the film will co-produced by Xavier Britto. The collaboration will mark the return of the Master team after Britto's XB Film Creators produced the action venture in association with 7 Screen Studios. Furthermore, they have reported that the upcoming Vijay-starrer will be a pan-Indian venture and roll into production in October, with the makers deciding on whom to cast as the villain in the film. Bollywood superstar Sanjay Dutt, who played the antagonist in the pan-Indian box office money-spinner KGF: Chapter 2 as the menacing Adheera recently, is said to be at the top of the list for the villain role in Thalapathy 67, with an official announcement expected to come out in the second half of 2022.

The buzz around Thalapathy 67 first began after the release of Master last year, with fans on social media expressing their joy at another collaboration between Vijay and Lokesh Kanagaraj. It is to be noted that Master revived the theatre business and the movie-watching experience in Tamil Nadu once again after cinema halls were shut down due to the pandemic and the lockdown in 2020. More updates on Thalapathy 67 are expected to come out, with all sights set now on Vijay's Thalapathy 66, which is being planned for a grand theatrical release either this Diwali or Pongal 2023.
