Veteran actor Ramesh Deo died on Wednesday due to a heart attack. He was 93. Speaking to PTI, Ramesh's filmmaker son Abhinay Deo said, "He passed away due to a heart attack around 8.30 p.m. tonight at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. He was 93." The iconic Bollywood actor, who had made appearances in more than 250 Hindi films and 200 Marathi ventures in a career that spanned 60 years, is best known among fans for his roles in the Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Anand.

Celebrities from the film industry and personalities from various other walks have expressed their condolences on social media after the news of Ramesh’s passing was made known. Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker paid his respects and tweeted, "Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of #RameshDeo kaka !! His contribution to Marathi and Hindi cinema is unforgettable! Indebted to him for giving me my first break as an actor, in Marathi Cinema! 🙇‍♂️ Heartfelt condolences to @Ajinkyad and @AbhinayDeo and families! 🙏".

Born in Amravati, Maharashtra, Ramesh Deo debuted on the big screen in a cameo in the 1951 Marathi film Paatlaachi Por. He landed his first major starring role in 1956 in the Marathi film, Andhala Magto Ek Dola, under Raja Paranjape's direction. The actor garnered a fan following for his performances in varied characters after making a transition to Hindi cinema in the mid-60s appearing in both positive and negative roles. Some of his most memorable films include Aarti, Anand, Aap Ki Kasam, Saraswatichandra, Teen Bahuraniyan, Mere Apne, Ghayal Once Again, Jeevan Mrityu, Khilona, Jolly LLB among others and starred alongside legendary actors like Dilip Kumar, Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan to name a few. Ramesh also took up roles in television and appeared in more than 30 Marathi shows. He is survived by his wife, veteran actress Seema Deo, and two sons Ajinkya Deo, a Marathi actor, and Abhinay Deo, a film director, who is best known for Delhi Belly.
