Silambarasan TR's Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu is set to open in cinemas worldwide on September 15 and the buzz for the film is massive, especially after the sensational audio and trailer launch event a few days back in Chennai. Produced by Dr. Ishari K. Ganesh's Vels Film International banner, director Gautham Vasudev Menon has written the screenplay based on a story penned by acclaimed Tamil writer Jeyamohan and the film also features music by Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman. Billed to be a gangster venture, Jeyamohan sat down with Galatta for an exclusive interview and shed light on how VTK is not actually an action film.
Jeyamohan said, "Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu is a slightly lengthy film. It is not a sleek movie. It is not based on a small event and the resulting incidents. Those types of films will finish quickly. This is a life journey story. You witness how the Kauvery river is flourishing at the Hogenakkal Falls. If you go on a car ride and see where the 'Thalai' Kauvery originates, you'll notice a small pit where about 5 to 10 liters of water will spring up. Now, that is Kauvery. This film is similar to the journey that the water streams down from Kauvery to Hogenakkal. It has a slow pace. We went ahead bravely and made this slow-paced film. It doesn't progress excitingly. It's a slow burner. Despite the violence and other aspects, this isn't an usual action film. I say this again and again to the audiences because I fear they must be used to thinking as such. This is not an action film."
The excitement surrounding Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu is tremendous after fans got to witness a glimpse of STR's upcoming avatar, and Jeyamohan's latest statements will no doubt create even more curiosity and expectations among the fans. The film also will show Gautham Menon shifting away from the genre of films he has made so far and it will be interesting to see how he has crafted a screenplay based on Jeyamohan's story.
