Tamil comedy superstar Vadivelu's mother Sarojini, lovingly called Paapa, passed away on Wednesday evening, January 18 due to health issues. She was 87. According to reports, she was residing in the village Viraganoor near Madurai and had been admitted to a private hospital for treatment in regard to her health issues. Reports further state Vadivelu was extremely close with his mother and is in deep grief now, and her last rites will be held on January 19 evening. Speaking to reporters on Thursday morning, Vadivelu informed that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, M. K. Alagiri, and several other political leaders have paid their condolences and given him courage after hearing the news of his mother's passing. Below is his statement:

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has also issued a statement of condolence saying, "The news of actor Vadivelu's beloved mother Sarojini ammal's (Paapa) passing due to ill-health at Viraganoor near Madurai has left me deeply upset. The death of a mother who showered great love will come as a big loss for any son. I express my deepest condolences to 'Vaigai Puyal' Thiru. Vadivelu and his family at this hour." Fans and celebrities too have been paying their tributes and expressing their strong support for the bereaved actor during this difficult time.

On the work front, Vadivelu, whose last big appearance was as the lead in Naai Sekar Returns towards the end of 2022, will be seen next in the filmmaker Mari Selvaraj's highly-anticipated Maamannan starring Udhayanidhi Stalin, Keerthy Suresh, Fahadh Faasil, which will feature music by Academy Award-winning composer A. R. Rahman. Vadivelu is also a part of veteran director P. Vasu's Chandramukhi 2, which has Raghava Lawrence, Kangana Ranaut, Radikaa Sarathkumar among others, and is being produced by Lyca Productions.
