2018 is a recent Malayalam film that has become a blockbuster hit. The film, directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, has a huge star cast that includes Tovino Thomas, Kunchako Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Aparna Balamurali, Narein, Lal, Indrans, Kalaiarasan and others in important roles. The film revolves around the Kerala flood that shook the state in 2018. It was the fastest Malayalam film to gross Rs.100 crores in box office collections. Now, it has created history becoming the first Malayalam film to cross the milestone of Rs.200 crores. The film grossed massive numbers despite it's OTT release on a leading streaming platform.

2018 was first released on 5th May just in Malayalam language, as it got positive reviews, the footfalls in theatres increased. With the elevation in theatre occupancy rates, The makers decided to release the film in other languages including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi, on 27th May. The Tovino Thomas starrer had collected Rs.100 crores at the box office at that point. Now, the film has grossed Rs.200 crores in worldwide box office collections. It was released on a OTT streaming platform three days ago on June 7th.

2018 focuses on various stories of survival, courage, Humanity and inspiration that took place during the Kerala floods in 2018 that causes many landslides and many lost their homes during the calamity. The director of the film Jude Anthany Joseph previously made hit films like Sara’s and Om Shanthi Oshana. In an exclusive interview with Galatta Media, the director of the film shared that an NGO had approached him to make a 15-minute-long inspirational video during the floods and then when he realized the positive story that was present in the disaster and he made the film and it became a huge success.
