Tamizhan is a Tamil language film that was released in 2002 starring Thalapathy Vijay. The film dealt with the message that people aware of their rights and know how to get justice. A significant sequence from the film shows Vijay filing a complaint as an conductor in a public bus would refuse to give back change to a senior citizen for his ticket and would also treat him in a humiliating way. The hero Vijay will then file a case against the bus conductor, driver and the transport corporation and the senior citizen will get Justice as the court will order suitable compensation and suspend the conductor.

A similar incident has taken place in Bangalore. Ramesh Nayak, who was refused change and degraded by officials in a Bangalore metropolitan transport Corporation Bus, has filed a complaint. He bought a ticket that costs ₹29. The commuter had given ₹30 and the conductor has not returned the change of ₹1 to the him. Ramesh Nayak filed the case in consumer court seeking ₹15,000 compensation from the transport corporations. He had also specified that the BMTC personnel in the bus degraded him and filed for a compensation of ₹15,000.

The BMTC claimed the allegations were baseless and frivolous and said they did their service right. The public authority then asked to court to dismiss the plea. The court said though the case might seem frivolous, the right of the commuters and citizens must be protected. the High Court then ordered the BMTC to give a compensation of ₹3,000 in total including ₹1000 as cost of litigation. they ordered the transport corporation to pay the amount withing 45 days or they would have to pay an interest of up to ₹6,000. As the incident was similar the movie, it has attracted the attention of netizens and has gone viral.
