A viral video on social media depicts Pithamagan producer V.A. Durai pleading for assistance with his medical treatment. According to reports, Durai suffers from diabetes and cannot walk due to its severe complications. In the video, he clarifies that aside from diabetes, he does not have any other health concerns. Durai is urgently seeking financial aid from the public as his living conditions have deteriorated, and his livelihood has been significantly impacted. As he has no one to care for him, he is currently living in a friend's house in Saligramam. After Durai's friend posted the video, actor Suriya generously donated Rupees 2 lakhs towards the producer's medical treatment. V.A. Durai made his debut in the year 2000 with the movie Ennamma Kannu starring Sathyaraj and Devayani. He has also collaborated with Sathyaraj on Looty in 2001 and Vivaramana Aalu in 2002. Durai served as an executive producer for Suresh Krishna's Baba starring superstar Rajinikanth. He then produced filmmaker Bala's Pithamagan starring Vikram and Suriya. The film went on to win critical acclaim and eventually became a massive hit. Pithamagan won the Filmfare Award for Best Tamil Film. Durai subsequently produced Suresh Krishna's directorial movie Gajendra starring Vijayakanth under a different studio named Tamilanai Cine Creation and the film eventually grew a cult audience and was a massive hit among the audience. The film is a remake of the Telugu blockbuster film Simhadri and was later dubbed into Hindi as Return of Khuda Gawah in 2010. He announced a comeback with the 2016 movie Kagitha Kappal directed by S. Sivaraman which received mixed reviews and did not make big in terms of the box office.
