VA Durai produced many Tamil-language films including Pithamagan and Gajendra under the banner Evergreen Movies International. Pithamagan directed by Bala had the star cast of Surya, Vikram, Laila and Sangeetha in lead roles. It got critical acclaim and also won the National Award. The living situation of the producer of the film has turned bad as the last two projects of his production house did not do well in box office. The producer has been bedridden for five months as his legs are severely injured and has other health complications due to diabetes. He doesn't even have a house and has taken refuge in his friend’s house.
The producer has worked with Rajinikanth in Baba as executive producer. VA Durai gave an exclusive interview to Galatta Media and said he is close to 'Superstar' Rajinikanth. He praised the star saying “there is no one else like him" and “I look forward to helping from Rajinikanth”. It looks like VA Durai’s call for help has reached him. Reports have stated that Rajinikanth has spoken with VA Durai through a phone call. It is said that he asked about the well-being of the producer and has assured that he will take care of his hospital expenses. There are also speculations that Rajinikanth will meet VA Durai in person once the shooting of his upcoming film warps.
Following the call for help by the producer, some celebrities have extended their help to the producer. Earlier, Actor Suriya had extended help to Pithamagan producer. VA Durai also said “Suriya was the only person who helped him” at the time of the interview. It's said that the head of the film producers association has come forward to help the producer. Reports state Raghava Lawrence and Karunas have extended monetary support to the producer.
