When asked if there were any plans for a sequel with the actress Swathi's role, as her character was left open-ended in the movie.

Director and actor Sasikumar said, "We thought about it." He said 15 years before, actor Jai jokingly asked him if there would be a sequel, to which the director had said, "'You have died, so you can't come; Samuthirakani is also dead, so he also can't come. But his father is there, and we can do the film.' I said it as a comedy about what would have happened if Thulasi (character played by Swathi) had gotten married, and the death of my character was not revealed, so let's show that he is alive. That in the way we jokingly shared the film would begin." The director said that after 15 years, as the film is being celebrated even now, he would leave the film just as it is.

Later, In the interview, Baradwaj Rangan asked if anybody had asked him if there would be a sequel. Sasikumar further explained that he had the idea of a story, but he won't do it because he wants Subramaniapuram to stay as it is. He said many had also asked him to remake the film in different languages, "but I will not remake Subramaniapuram even if you give me lakhs of money. The film is a mood that the artists gave at that time. The location gave at that time. At that time, two clouds would have passed in a scene. We cannot make the cloud move the same way again. The same way I cannot do the film again.", said the director Sasikumar.
