Veteran filmmaker-actor S. A. Chandrasekhar will be seen in a key role in acclaimed director Thangar Bachan's next film, Karumegangal Kalaiginrana. The upcoming film, which also stars Bharathiraja, Aditi Balan, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Yogi Babu among others, had its audio launch ceremony held in Chennai on Sunday. During the event, S. A. Chandrasekhar went on to speak about the times when he approached Bharathiraja and Gautham Menon to make films with his son 'Thalapathy' Vijay.

Speaking at the Karumegangal Kalaiginrana audio launch, S. A. Chandrasekhar said, "When my son Vijay wanted to become an actor, I prepared an album. By then, I had directed 50-60 films, but I never wished to introduce him. I felt it would be better if a bigger director introduces him and the first place I went was to Bharathiraja's office. He was a big director during the 1990s. When I showed him the album, he told me to launch Vijay myself saying that I was a good director. I felt he was telling me indirectly that he wouldn't do it." He added, "I wanted to join as his assistant and that didn't happen. I wanted my son to act under his direction and that also didn't happen. In the end, Thangar Bachan has brought us both together and made us act as friends."

S. A. Chandrasekhar also spoke about Gautham Menon, who as well is a part of Karumegangal Kalaiginrana, and said, "He has done a wonderful character in the film. I took an album of Vijay and met him too on one occasion. During the early stages, no good directors came forward to do films with Vijay. In a way, it's a good thing. He became a commercial hero because he was with me. And, I have to thank God for that." S. A. Chandrasekhar further went on to express his gratitude and happiness for his role in Karumegangal Kalaiginrana and thanked everyone in the film.
